A Sad Day in Hollywood
Sadly actor Leslie Nielsen passed away yesterday. His career, which spanned over sixty years, was filled with major cinematic hits including Airplane! and The Naked Gun series. He appeared in over 100 movies and 1,500 TV shows, and played more than 220 distinct roles – almost as many characters as I blow through when I forget to take my multiple-personality medication. I kid, I kid.
Needless to say he was a funny guy and will be greatly missed. I’m going to spend my afternoon honoring him by watching Home is Where the Hart Is, Foxfire Light and Dangerous Curves. It’s a little odd to mourn someone’s death by cracking up, but I figure this what he would have wanted.
My personal favorite of the three films is Home is Where the Hart Is, a flick about a wealthy millionaire who is snatched up by his maid who wants to marry him and cash in on a big payday once he bites the bullet. His twin sons – who are past their prime themselves - hop in on the action to save their dad and hilarity ensues. Nielsen plays Sheriff Nashville Schwartz, an officer with a unique approach to law enforcement.
Leave a comment below telling me what you think of the films or about Leslie Nielsen’s work in general. Are you as blue about his passing as I am? And don’t worry, I promise my next post will be upbeat.
