Fall Down the Rabbit Hole
Having a good day?  Felling happy?  That’s great!  But maybe you should stop reading…
Last week I went to a press screening of Rabbit Hole, the new film starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart.  The movie is about a couple’s lives in the aftermath of their young son’s death.  Now, I was prepared to be pretty sad and was maybe even secretly looking forward to having a good, cathartic cry (nothing like tears amongst co-workers!) but the movie was more than I could have even imagined.  Your heart just aches for Nicole and Aaron’s characters and you want to pop through the screen and give them a big hug.  Sometimes you want to shake them or slap them too – just like Heidi and Spencer’s relationship, there were a lot of emotional ups and downs.  Yeah, I just mentioned Speidi in the same paragraph as an Oscar winner.
Oh, what to say.  Even though I’m not married or a parent yet myself, I still felt every bit of their pain as they tried to navigate the murky waters of a marriage in the midst of tremendous heartbreak.  It’s a sad movie and there is no getting around that, but there is a powerful message of hope.  Hope and a cute dog.  Hope, a cute dog, and some marijuana.   I can’t get into the details without ruining the experience for you but I can tell you that it is definitely worth seeing.  On the LT-sad-o-meter it was about a 7.  I got a little teary at some points, but didn’t have snot running down my face and those awful, guttural sobs like I did when I saw The Notebook (that’s a whole other blog post right there).  Nevertheless, I would highly recommend tissues.
