Captain’s Log: Day Three
You’ve all heard me wax poetic on Comic-Con and how crazy this entire experience is, and I promise you when I get back to New York you’re going to hear me go on and on about how incredible the most minute details were, (like my photo op with Mr. T above), but for now I am going to spare you the big introduction and jump right in to tell you about my day.
Derek and I started our day off with a pedi-cab ride to breakfast, and although this has nothing to do with Comic-Con, I thought you all might find it funny. Just imagine Derek and me being peddled around town like Caesar on his chariot. Over our omelets we reviewed our plan. Derek and I have been working so well together – he is the brain (and beauty) behind the operation and I’m the brawn.
Our first stop was the Drive Angry 3D panel with Nicolas Cage (a panel, in case you were wondering, is where the cast and crew of a film discuss their work and take questions from the audience). The movie looks insane! Nic plays a guy who escaped from hell to get justice for his slain daughter and the Devil is looking for him to bring him back. Bullets fly at your face in 3D – scary but awesome. Next up we roamed the booths looking for interesting costumes, and of course, there were tons of them. Every single outfit you can imagine on every type of person – little babies dressed as Yoda, old ladies dressed as Robin – and none of them were shy about their love for Comic-Con. Good or bad, (have you ever seen an old man in Lycra from head to toe?), they all went for it.
After that we went to hear Zach Quinto and Tim Kring discuss his new book coming out called Shift. Seeing a trailer (narrated by Quinto) for a novel is bananas – it looks so compelling, it was nearly as effective as “Reading Rainbow.” Then Derek and I ran to hear the Godfather of Comic-Con, Stan Lee, talk about his experience in the Comic world. Stanny (that’s what his friends call him) was unbelievably charming and funny. Derek leaned over and told me that Stan was the “type of guy you would want as your Grandfather” and I was thinking “umm, yeah, or as your boyfriend” but kept that to myself. Yes, he’s slightly older than me, but he could create some sort of new hero that gets younger. Kind of like my other boyfriend Benjamin Button.
Then we saw the set of Thor, which was very cool, very gold and very large. It was similar to what I imagine Donald Trump’s living room looks like. Derek and I then tried to see Joss Whedon but the line was out of control and we missed it. I felt like I was waiting to ride Magic Mountain. After that we hauled butt to hear a panel on The Other Guys, The Green Hornet and Priest. That panel is a blog in and of itself, so I’ll save the details for later. But, just as a quick teaser, I would absolutely go see all three of the films, especially The Other Guys. Will Ferrell and Marky Mark? Yes please!
We ended the day with a preview screening of the first 8 minuets of Saw 3D. A horror movie is not the appropriate way to end a day, people! Luckily I was so exhausted from our non-stop day that I was able to pass out, but otherwise I think I would have been up wondering if Jigsaw was going to come and get me. Eeek.
Ok, I promise to give you more details on everything but I have to run off to another jam-packed day! May the force be with you.
